Position: Scientist II, Chemistry
Job Description: Conducts independent lab research in free radical and living polymerization techniques, biophysical characterization methods, and preparation and characterization of polymer bioconjugates for new classes of multifunctional polymers for improved drug delivery. Performs organic, macromolecule, polymer, and copolymer synthesis utilizing radical-addition fragmentation polymerization (RAFT), block copolymer synthesis, and protein complexation. Prepares and performs purification and analysis of polymeric mixed particles and micelles using data analysis, curve fitting, and other techniques. Analyzes polymeric carriers using dynamic light scattering (DLS), static light scattering (SLS), capillary electrophoresis, ultracentrifugation, gel permeation chromatography, and NMR spectroscopy. Applies principles and techniques of biochemistry and pharmaceutical sciences in various research tasks. Supervises and instructs one or more researchers conducting living RAFT polymerization.
Minimum Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, Chem/Biomedical Engineering or a related field, or foreign degree equivalent; and
- Two years of laboratory research work experience in free radical and living polymerization techniques; preparing and characterizing polymer bioconjugates; performing synthesis and characterization of polymer constructs, polymeric mixed micelles, and particles; using radical-addition fragmentation polymerization (RAFT) and block copolymer synthesis by RAFT; and utilizing bioconjugation, gel permeation chromatography, dynamic light scattering, and NMR spectroscopy. Must include at least one year of supervising others performing living RAFT polymerization research. Experience may be gain concurrently.

Scientist, Tumor Biology
The Company
PhaseRx is an RNAi delivery technology company developing a breakthrough polymer-based system that enables the systemic, targeted delivery of RNAi-based drugs and potentially other macromolecules as therapeutic products. PhaseRx is ushering in a turnkey approach to RNAi delivery using pH-responsive polymers that deliver RNAi therapeutics directly into the cytoplasm where they can reach and inhibit the desired target of interest.
The Position
PhaseRx is expanding its efforts in tumor biology and is seeking a highly experienced tumor biologist to help lead our tumor biology efforts. The successful candidate will develop and evaluate novel cell culture and in vivo models for the targeted delivery of siRNA to tumor cells. This is a hands-on and highly interactive position that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task biotech environment, strong communication skills, and strong scientific credentials.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Help lead our tumor biology efforts. Develop relevant in vitro and in vivo models for the evaluation of delivery vehicles for anti-cancer siRNA therapeutics. Design, implement, and analyze murine xenograft tumor studies and in vivo experimentation with specialized models used for evaluation of siRNA delivery formulations.
- Select and develop xenograft tumor models.
- Use models to evaluate the delivery of polymers and siRNA to tumor cells
- Track gene silencing activity in tumors
- Help select siRNA drug targets for tumor studies
- Evaluate efficacy in tumor models
- Evaluate mechanisms of activity and toxicity of delivery vehicles in tumor settings
POSITION Requirements:
- A Ph.D. in science relevant area and at least 5 years experience as a post graduate, with at least 3 years of industry experience.
- A strong working knowledge of cancer models and molecular therapeutic approaches in oncology
- At least 5 years hands-on experience in designing and executing in vivo cancer model experiments including fluency with cancer disease models, transgenic and KO approaches, and pharmacology
- Expertise with all aspects of animal work; experience with in vivo optical imaging techniques is a plus.
- Experience with DNA and RNA assay and protein immunoassay technologies (ELISA, qPCR, FACS)
- Proficiency in the use of software tools to support data analysis
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Scientist, Bioanalytical Chemistry
Summary and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team in the development of novel polymer – based delivery systems. The primary responsibilities for this position will be to develop methods for the quantitative analysis of siRNA and polymers in both formulations and various biological samples and apply these methods experimentally. Additional responsibilities will include analytical QC of incoming materials and analysis of samples from metabolism studies. This position reports to the Director of Chemistry.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or related field with 4+ years of experience, preferably in an industrial environment.
- Prior experience in isolation and analysis of siRNA, polymers, proteins or other macromolecules from biological samples is essential.
- Prior experience HPLC, SEC, HIC, ion exchange chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, LC/MS.
- Previous experience in operation and maintenance of an MS would be beneficial
- Ability to maintain accurate records of experiments.
